U2 leave Island

The band switch labels to Mercury
06 Oct 06 - U2 are jumping ship from their record label after 27 years at Island Records.

Bono and Co. will now join Universal owned Mercury to put out their Greatest Hits Collection next month for starters.

No comment from the band today, but it's thought the reason they have decided to leave their long standing home is due to the fact they want to remain with Mercury President Jason Iley.

He was working for Island but left last May with his team including A&R manager Richard O'Donovan.

The band did a similar thing stateside when they also left Island to go to Interscope ten years ago, when they followed Interscope president Jimmy Iovine as he moved between the labels.
