Gorillaz go 3D

The cartoon band will play as holograms
25 Oct 05 - Gorillaz are to perform as 3D holograms with De La Soul at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Lisbon on 3 November.

Damon Albarn and co can't be there, as Gorillaz will be playing the third of five live shows at Manchester Opera House on the same day.

The 3D hologram animation technology is being used for the first time in the world as part of a live music TV performance. Gorillaz will play Feel Good Inc at the event.

MTV senior vice president of music Harriett Brand said: "Gorillaz' groundbreaking performance will set new standards for digital innovation and visual identity."

Today it was announced Ike Turner, Neneh Cherry and Martina Topley Bird will be special guests during the residency in Manchester from 1-5 November. Shaun Ryder, De Le Soul and Roots Manuva have already signed up.

Damon Albarn told 6 Music: "I'm not quite sure what it's going to look like yet. It's not totally organised."

the visual effects were outstanding and can only lead the way for the rest of the music industry to follow. if this catches on then live shows will be breathtaking.
