White Stripes star ties knot in canoe

03 June 05 - White Stripes star Jack White has married his girlfriend in a canoe on the Amazon River in Brazil.
 
The singer/guitarist's wedding to model Karen Elson has been confirmed by his publicist.
 
Meg White was a maid of honour and the band's manager acted as best man at the service, which was conducted by a Shaman priest in the Amazon basin on Wednesday and followed by a blessing at a Catholic cathedral in the city of Manaus.

Officially this is being referred to as Jack White's first marriage

Model Elson, famous since the late nineties for her trademark pale face and red hair, was born in the UK and previously romantically linked with James Iha, one-time guitarist with Smashing Pumpkins.

She appears in the White Stripes' new video Blue Orchid and it is rumoured that the couple only met five weeks ago.

Officially this is being referred to as Jack White's first marriage, although it is known that he was married to drummer Meg for four years, between 1996 and 2000.

The band's new album Get Behind Me Satan is being released in the UK on Monday (6 June).
