How do I contact 6 Music?
Please visit our Contact Us page.
What was that song you played?
Try the tracklistings for the show you were listening to and the playlist for songs we're playing at the moment. Because of time and volume of requests, we're not always able to help with email questions but, if we can, we will. If you just send a message asking for the name of a record that 'George Lamb played last week that had a hard baseline' then that's too vague and we can't help!
How do I find a show to listen to online?
You can listen to any of our evening or weekend shows for up to seven days after broadcast by going to the BBC iPlayer. After this, they are deleted. Some sessions or interviews are archived for longer, in which case visit the relevant show page to find out.
Where is the webcam?
There is a webcam in our studio in London and a second in the Manchester studio. Each takes a photo every 5 minutes.
Why isn't the webcam on?
The webcam is only when when a programme is being broadcast live. Even then, it may not be on if the presenter is looking a bit rough that day.
What is a chatroom?
Chatrooms are places where you can 'meet' people online and type messages to them in real time. This means their reply comes up instantly, you don't have to wait as with email.
The conversation usually centres around the show. So, at 6 Music you could talk about new releases with Steve Lamacq. If there is a guest on the show, they may join in too.
When is 6 Music's chatroom open and how do I join?
The chatroom is open from 6 til 7 pm on Thursdays for Steve Lamacq's Roundtable. To join in:
1. Type your first and last name and click 'Connect'
2. When you enter a room the log-in page will refresh to show the chatroom on the same page
3. Type your comments in the entry box and press return
4. You will be able to see who enters and leaves the room
5. When a room is full, you can still watch a chat but you can't speak. If you wait, space may become available.
Is there any etiquette or rules?
1. No personal contact details
2. No website addresses
3. Treat others with respect
Anybody breaking these rules will be banned for one hour from the chatrooms. This means their 'voice' is removed by the moderator. This period of time can increase if the person re-offends or it can be a permanent ban.
If you feel harassed it's best to leave the room immediately to avoid more distress. You can click on the 'Alert' button at the top of the chatroom window to make a formal complaint.
For more information go to Chatroom Help
How do I join the message board?
You can find out everything to do with message boards on message board help. To join in, you first need to register.
Where can I learn more about podcasts?
To find out how to subscribe to, download and play podcasts, or for troubleshooting and general enquiries about the BBC's podcasts, visit the Podcasts FAQ.
How do you choose the bands you play?
Our presenters at 6 are great music lovers and we play stuff that's credible, influential and has longevity. We air tracks from the BBC's massive session archive, the 3,500 (and climbing) tunes on our core database and new releases that make it onto our playlist each week. As with other stations, daytime shows are centred more around the playlist, while evening shows have room for more obscure selections.
How do I get my band played on 6 Music?
We'll listen to your music if you want to send it in! You can send it to the producer of the show you want to get it played on. If you don't know the producer, mark the envelope 'for the Producer of show X' and send it to 6 Music, Room 540, Western House, 99 Great Portland Street, London, W1A 1AA.
