The Reading Festival on 6 Music is part of a wider BBC campaign called RaW inviting listeners to read more and write better.

Across the week, presenters and guests on 6 Music talked about their favourite books, listeners sent their review to Vic McGlynn's show, Gideon's Website Wasteland feature looked at blogging and songwriting websites, Steve Lamacq launched Lamacq's Library with Jack Kerouac's On the Road and Vic McGlynn kept a blog for a week.

What is RaW?
By 2010 two thirds of all jobs will require a reading age of 16 or over. Currently 12 million adults of working age in the UK have reading levels that would not pass a GCSE in English.

The RaW (Reading and Writing) campaign on the BBC will include some of the BBC's presenters and celebs to help break down the barriers to better reading and writing.

RaW will have a range of national and local initiatives, storylines in soaps including EastEnders, a Test the Nation special, interactive sites, and everything from a reading week to pub quizzes. RaW hopes to drive new people towards reading more and writing better.
