Have we got it wrong about single parents?

23/02/2010

The leaders of all three of the main political parties have signed a pledge to try and stop single parents being viewed as 'lazy scroungers'.

Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg are all backing a campaign by the charity Gingerbread. It says a lot of people's views about single mums and dads are simply wrong.

On the Phone-in this morning, Shelagh asks whether you think we've got it wrong about single parents?

I'm sure some single parents are after a free ride BUT you can't put all single parents in the same class. My best friend was left by her boyfriend, she brought up 2 beautiful girls in a 1 bedroom flat, she didn't get any support and for some reason the council could not sort out a larger house for her. I honestly don't know how she coped. This girl is amazing. David from Cambridge

Branding all single parents is wrong but there are very many abusers. It should be made clear to all single mothers that there will be no benefists for future pregnancies. It is too easy to become pregnant to avoid work walt lincolnshire
