1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
The Source runs dry?
Current issue of The Source
The Source magazine, once dubbed the hip hop Bible has been taken over and its two owners given the sack. Where do you go to get the latest hip hop news?
The Source is now more than $18m in debt and last week a judge ruled a takeover was needed to help claw back the money they owe.

Dave Mays and Ray Benzino have been kicked out and Black Enterprise has now taken control. Sales have been hit by competition from other magazines and Benzino's long running feud with Eminem didn't help.

It all started as a single page of music news but at its peak, sold millions of issues world wide. What's next for The Source?
So if the magazine goes under where will you get the latest gossip from? Who's to blame for the mags current state? When did it all go wrong? Have you got a favourite issue? What did The Source do for hip hop?

I can't remember the last time I bought The Source, even as a girl I wasn't put off by the scantily-clad females in the mag as I just wanted my dose of US Hip Hop but then it just wasn't delivering the goods and the adverts were just too much. I use the internet alot for music news and can't remember the last time I bought a music related mag - it probably had Nas on the cover.

I think Benzino used the source as a weapon to settle his scores with anyone who critised him. Dave Mays giving Benzino 5 mics was a joke and giving rappers like Talib Kweli 4,5 mics.
