1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
Got street pastors in your town?
Pastor Les at work on the street
Listen to the special feature
They’re taking God's word to the streets of Manchester, Birmingham and more UK cities.
But the pastors' mission is not to preach - it's to turn young people off gangs, drugs and guns. Like in-your-face social work with a Christian flavour.

The idea began in Kingston, Jamaica where churches take their values onto the streets. Getting possible offenders back into their communities again is the aim.

Kwame Kwei-Armah played Finn on Casualty on BBC1. He travels to Boston to see how black churches in the UK can learn from the US church. Check it out.
Like the idea?  Know any pastors in your community? Are they onto it - or are they do-gooders out of their depth with street troubles? What else is being done on a street level to turn kids away from violence?

Poetic Justice
It's a good theory... but I doubt it actually gon' work. Most of those dat need help is beyond it. It might be helpful to some young kids, but y'all can't watch dem all the time and they still gon be wit their crew growin up, gettin into trouble. Real change needs to come from equality... and I don't see that happenin in the nex billion years.

It's the only way! I am a youth minister here in the states and u would be amazed @ how many youth want change! Thru prayer and nuff outreach, we will conquer to streets! Salute!

louise. bristol
yeah! sounds like a good idea, but whether it will works nuva thing...im backin it definitely tho.

I believe that this "STREET PASTOR" thing is not going to work out, this is because there are many youths out there that don't give a monkeys about drugs and crime!

Catherine, Clapham
This is a horrible idea, for both parties concerned; helping vulnerable/disaffected people via any ideology is unhelpful. It also suggests community spirit and social health can only be achieved via theism. If it's the pastors' mission 'not to preach', why use pastors?

Jigga
It's a good idea. Going to take some before it begins to have some effect. I think some of the youths on road need a different angle. To hear it from someone else other than a family member or the police.
