As a rasta man sizzla should keep the lyrics cultral, educate the children, cussing is not the way to educate the youths. spritual movements is the way forward if black people are to survive.
Bushyouth
I would be honest with you I **WAS** the biggest Sizzla fan you can have. Since the man turn from the black conscious , nice ways I think he deserve everything he got at that concert.
Sizzla return to your roots. Return to the "Black Woman and Child" days. Play the music like that. I never hear anybody complain for that music. Stop the cursing and get back to the true days of spreading love and peace and helping black people to get forward in life.
Let me know if it is Reggae or Dancehall you doing cause if people don't know they are different forms of the same music.
Peace out!!!!!!

Thats so wrong ... musics a form of expression and letting your feelings out etc ... i dont see quentin tarantino getting arrested for making stupidly violent films with swearing and blood n guts right from start to finish so why arrest some one for swearing ?
... stupid ... how much control are world goverments trying to exercise ?
Jemma
He knew the rules! Agreed it is harsh... and the law needs to be changed...
but still if you break the rules you have to face the consciences!

much as am against sending him to jail; i'll like to advise sizzla and others that we must keep the fire burning, but u know fire can destroy and at same time do good things. Do not let ur anger against the system make u spew negative words. The youth thems are learning. The vibes must always be positive but keep the fire burning

Now they can't talk about gay people, they can't swear. What you want dem to do, sing about flowers and little teddy bears?
Mista
Depends on the show..if its like a benefit concert or somthin, yeah tone it down a bit. But really, its all art and expression...and if thats the way an artist decides to perform, they shouldn't be punished..if you dont like the artist or the way they deliver the lyrics, dont go to the show
S.i.e.g.e aka SelfTautz
its ok for def metal artists to cus.....theres nuff other types of music that say what they want and like nobody gets collered for it....
TB
Many of these reggae speak about rightousness, and Jah, but in many cases their lifestyle does not reflect that. Maybe this will give Sizzla and other artists time to think about what message they are putting across to people. Practice what you preach.
LADY NICE
Rapper artists cuss and swear in their tunes , which go on cd's and are sold to thje public, they swear on stage too .... WHY they picking on sizzla ?? I think its because he's anti gay

Artists should get more freedom when on stage, at the same time some measures should be put in place to limit them from projecting a negative image to the kids. Believe me, the kids disect more from what the artists say than adults do and they are more impressionable. I think Jamaican music in the most part is decent and should not change to the Hip hop culture in the US. Sizzla, u have time to come up with a great song for those behind bars.......
Adam Dukszta
How can you question whether an artist should have freedom of speech? We should all have freedom of speech! Jail-time for cursing? Has the human race not developed at all? Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights that EVERYONE should be allowed. Convicting an artist of slander is not only unjust, it is a disgrace to the prosperity of all mankind.
Blunt knucklez, Norf London
i can understand that there maybe cultural differences, but how bad is swearing?
people go to the gig and know what theyre gonna hear.. its not like hes on tv or anything with swearing. Anyway the same happened with DMX and he got introuble in st kitts if i remember right..them need to change their laws! Peace out
Musical Genius
I think this kind of jailing to an entertainer for swearing is out of order and wasting tax payers money, free up sizzla kalonji NOW.......
Jig
I love sizzla, I think he has dun some real positive tunes. I think if people have paid money to see somone and they know he/she is gonna cus then you cant really tell the artist not to, I just dont think its a positive thing for society.
danielle
its not fair that he got a prison sentence and other artists have got away with it.
menace man
ease up on him judge!

I believe when artists cuss on stage they just wana get across their feelings in a more powerful way!!!!!!
nothing wrong with dat!!!

I believe that it depends on how much of a problem cursing on stage has been. For instance, if it hardly ever happens, then a warning or a fine would be fair. However, if the artists seem to be ignoring the rules, and it is a consistant problem, then one way to get the artists to take the rules seriously is to make an example of the next person.
So, because it's a constant problem, I think it is fair for Sizzla to spend two weeks in jail. Two weeks won't hurt him too much. I would also like to say that I admire Jamaica for having that law. It is good for the young people, and there are good kids who pay attention to these types of matters! I wish we had it here in the U.S. Money shouldn't always be the only thing that matters.
Nissyboo
Come on give the jamaican entertainers a break. Cussing bad word has been a part of dancehall music for a long time. it hypes up the people. The fans are not complaining so what's the problem.
UC REDD
We Jamaicans are known all over the world We are mighty we are strong we set trends. I welcome the ruling, for a long time iv'e been praying that singers,dj's producer, radio dj etc put a little respect back into the business. As much as i love Sizzler and all the other artist, swearing on stage or in the music recordings that goes out in the whole world should stop. These high profile artist should set example. we are always good at getting near the mark without SWEARING . Lets hope our artist learn from this ...from a PROUD JAMAICAN J.L.W.L
young one
at first i was totally against him being imprisoned for what seems like a minor offence but I can see the other side of the argument. He isn't doing his country proud by promoting profanity & in turn ppl will start to develop a negative image of jamaicans so I think that maybe him being locked up will serve as a deterrent for any future artist planning on using expletives at public shows
krissm
I think musicians need to respect their customers. All the same i got nothing but mad love. Lets build a positive community (mind you the generation to come is watching you musicians and passing on what they see and hear).
Jonathan Cunningham (journalist in Detroit)
No, he didn't get what he deserved. He's an artist and artists should enjoy "freedom of expression." In the US, artists can curse on stage as much as they want. It seems silly for the police to be standing by monitoring what comes out of Sizzla's mouth in the first place!
Jamaica may be beautiful, but imperialist still run the kourt system!!
Big up's Sizzla!!
Maira Guarabyra
They got him cos they want to set an example and heīs the biggest. But of course itīs all rubbish. Itīs censorship, itīs old-fashioned, itīs pathetic, itīs ridiculous! Itīs the Bush times! Get me out of here!!!!
Rankin Mr. B
the paying public knows what to expect from an artist when they buy tickets to check out their stage show. You would only buy tickets to see your favorite artist perform, nothing that artist says will embrass you. I think they using Sizzla as a scapegoat, they do not like his lyrics and message so they are targeting him. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS BURN FIRE BURN!!!!
Mr C Crooks
If so be the case, all the artist on channels like MTV base etc should all be sent to jail, coz there has been at least 100,000 perfomances over the last decade world wide which has cursing. swearing is a minor, what happened here is a small country taking the opportunity to persecute one there own to impress the western world, because siz' has them under pressure coz they know the what effect his message would have if people started taking heed.

What ever happened to freedom of expression in the arts. Music is a way of communicating hardships and lifestories. If you can't express it the way you want - what is the point. And im pretty sure the judge that senteced Sizzla is trying to set precedent....
FREE SIZZLA!!
peace.oneluv.respect.bless.

They should have more freedom! Everybody got his own way to express their feelings, rather if you are an artist or a simple citizen! In Belgium (Where I live) we can say everything what we want, without that kind of punishment! Freedom of speech... for everyone...
Anton
di whole ting foolish, yuh no! artist shud have di right fi express demselves pun stage. its part a di music, and a eediat ting dat fi sizzla fi lock up, Peace
de real ras
the cops have been targeting sizzla but on the same show nearly every other artist swore. how can people be punished for their using their own language?
its funny this happened at a time we are celebrating the birth of BOB. my mom told me that in the 70's, bob was also under several investigation and was banned from certain places and people even publicly stated that they wish he wasnt born. its funny that all the elders in my community could remember these events but the media failed to remember..
Hilary
Artists should be let to have freedom of expression because they are the voice of the voiceless and i think it will be bad to deprive them freedom of expression no matter what language they use.
mikey lion
To imprison an entertainer for swearing publicly is not just totally outrageous and unacceptable but it is completely unenforceable, if that were to become the norm we would be imprisoning half the entertainers in the world!! It is totally against our freedom of speech and once again the abuse of power is highlighted by a righteous rastaman - our prayers are with you sizzla!!!
j'on alexander, haiti
the right of expressing your freedom of speech is of all mankind. however, for a small community, a third world status of a government should allow artist who cover in taxes, and those who contribute, and attract those who influence others to visit jamaica should wise a bit in respect. more-so, think of it this way. if foreign issues are a worry, what make them (the authorities) think who really pay their bill? it's the talent of the island that makes it work. think again mr.jamiacan government. think about life for once in your mind. respect.

FREE SPEECH FI LIVE I-ya !!!!!!!! Bun a fyah fi dat. Mek de man do 'im ting. De man a artis', a wha DEM feel like. It's all about "Stage Pro-farmance" !!! There are far more important tings goings on in Yaard (like poverty and abandon youts'..... "SYSTEM" wake up and smell di 'Blue Mountain coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bingi
An artist must be allowed freedom of speech and expression. Sizzla isn't saying anything onstage that people haven't heard before. There aren't any 5 year old kids in the dancehall. The sentence was unjust!
Free up Sizzla!!!!!
