He deserved what he got. He's actually a disappointment, for someone having the oppotunity to play football nationally and internationally. He's a let down to those trying to keep negative attention away from black sportsmen. That was definitely no way to celebrate your forthcoming child and a winning goal. He's been a footballer long enough to realise that he has to represent. Once he serves his time, he should be able to continue playing football and hopefully would have learnt his lesson.I glad the victim spoke out, as if it happened to one of my family member, i'd want them to do the same.Shame on Marlon King for letting himself and his family down.

I am going to disagree with most of the comments left on here. I think the sentance is too long. I go out in town and i have men groping me... yes its not nice but if your a pretty girl it happens full stop. Ok i didnt get punched in the face because i wasnt happy about it but i beleive that there may be underline circumstances as to why this happened. As stated in the comments above there are people that have gotten away with going to Jail for far worse crimes. And Marlon King is a footballer.... id need a lot more fingers and toes to count how many false or exagerated alligations are made about Footballers. Most young girls want to meet a Footballer and be a WAG.... its whats fasionable these days... I believe Marlon should have been punished by Tag and suspended sentance for the alledged alligation. I feel the punishment he has been given is far to harsh in comparison to what a lot of people walk away scot free from court over.

How can Marlon King's sentence be too lenient when compared to William Dowling aged 69 who walked free with a 1 years sentence suspended after being convicted of the premeditated poisoning of his wife with mercury.

disgraceful, but theres two sides to a story, maybe he had history with the victim, either way hes a married man, wot is doing fundaling with femals in a club. i think he need help and his past doesnt help the case.

I'm just confused as to why Paul Gascoigne didn't go to jail for battering his wife to pulp.

Most people do not know that he will only serve at the most 9 months imprisonment, as everyone gets automatically 1/2 off his sentence before being released on licence. Also, most prisoners are released earlier still on electronic tagging curfew. So Marlon King will probably spend about 7 1/2 months in prison only. This sentence is far too lenient! The unfortunate 20 year old victim of the piggish brute is said to have a permanent disfigurement to her face, and to have suffered emotional problems, such as fear of going out. Marlon King should have been sent away for 4 years, with his bad record for similar offences, and should have been ordered to pay the victim a large some of compensation (say £15,000) as this brute earns £40,000 a week. What do you think of his subtle chatting up technique- He grabs her buttock, and says "Do you know who I am? I'm a multi8-millionaire. You are not in my league!"

Why is it nescessery for the bbc to refer to marlon as a jamaican international, which he is .But he was born in England. You could simply say footballer jailed. It seems that everychance the bbc get it takes a stab at jamaica.

This man is has a history of violence and violence against women. His agent should be more concerned about helping Marlon to get professional help to sort out his anger and violence issues, which obviously has NEVER been addressed!!! Rather than getting him into another club when he's done his time. Mind you at 29 I'm sure no other club would want him....Shame on the family for trying to play the race card too! Marlon's issues are more than race, the family should look at themselves instead of trying to cover up for him.

He's made his bed now he should lay in it!!! Too many footballers are getting away with far too much, due to scum like him that think their JOBS give them the right to walk all over people it is ruining the sport and the respect that at one point came with the game. People idolise footballers and what example is this setting for the youngsters of today, that if you become a footballer you can sexaully abuse someone, spend a couple of months in prison and then you can return to living the high life as if nothing happend. Unfortunately the victims of these acts cant move on quite so easily, they are left to live with the ordeal of what has happend to them day in and day out. Sexual assult should destroy Footballers careers just like it has so many people's lives, why should they be given the priveledge to be apart of such a respected sport when it's just giving the impression the victims lives and their pain is just insignificant! Loosing the one thing they are good at may be the one thing that will truely punish them and make them wake up to the reality that they aren't GODS and they can't get away with doing what they want, to who they want, when then want!!!

I think that Marlon King should not be allowed to continue as a footballer, after such a conviction.Football already has a poor reputation where violence is concerned. The sentence given to Marlon King was light considering that he has a history of violence. For Marlon King's family to play the "race card" is a insult to genuing issues concerning race. (this comes from a black woman)

i think he should be able to play football again look at steven gerrard he had fight and it was on cctv and he got a fine and can still play football
