I can't believe anyone who considers themselves to be a normal moderate person would condone this appalling travesty let alone regard it in any way entertaining. Satanists and other evil doers must be rejoicing in the whole sordid debate.

There are programmes every day that infringe on peoples beliefs in some way. Just because it abuses religious beliefs, why should it be a problem? There are programmes that contain racisim and sexism but they dont get as much attention.
Tony Elsom
I know I did not have to watch the show, but I had to pay for it, through my licence tax, sorry, fee.

It's been pointed out that one couldn't mock Islam or Judaism in the same way JS:TM mocks Christianity. Well, that's the problem - not that Christianity shouldn't have to face criticism or humour, but that everyone else should too.
Religious issues are getting completely out of hand. I always felt that what separates Britain from the American theocracy is that we have a sense of humour about these things. Now we risk proclaiming "Everything's fair game for comics but religion", which would be an extremely silly (and dangerous) thing to do.

Everyone has their own right to voice their opinion, if ppl don't believe in the content then they shouldn't watch it, shouting ur mouth of about it, isn't the right way.
Jaime Alvarez
I personally think Jerry Springer is trash and his show is trash but it should be shown. The less people that watch it, the better chance it won't be shown again.

Everybody needs to lighten up. So what if Jesus claims to be "just a little bit gay?" Is the Kingdom of Heaven only for heteros? The Jerry Springer opera offends people to the core, but they have no problem killing women and children who run from Fallujah? This bleeping world is so far gone I just want to spit. It's near time for the second coming.
J. Swann
Jerry Springer the Opera was brilliant - congratulations! I am so glad you showed it. It was a biting commentary on the kind of TV programs we have to watch most of the time. More of this kind of thing please! (I do not feel it was offensive - the fact that the Jesus and Mary scenes were in fact a dream sequence made it absolutely fine in my book).
Mark G
It's funny how anyone protesting about anything offensive to their religion is a "nut". If it was mohammed that was the butt of the jesus joke, then I'm certain the BBC would not have shown it.
Vicki
Of course the BBC should have the right to show it! We have a choice in tuning in! The campaigners have only succeeded in publicising the transmission and have guaranteed BBC2 more viewers than if they hadn't complained. Defeating their own purpose I think!
Dudley Coates
Please understand that many Christians do not support the campaign for censorship against this programme and that neither Stephen Green nor his organisation have the right to speak for us.
pippa regan
i am 13 and i watched it and no i dont think it was offensive but then i do swear and dont think swearing is bad this is an opera for those people like me who dont think swearing and all sorts is bad it is a bit of fun and if you dont like it theres a thing called a remote use it and u will not be offended!
Heather James
I watched the Jerry Springer Opera last night largely because so much fuss had been made about it. On the whole I enjoyed it and thought it was very funny. I am quite happy for religion and tv talk shows to be parodied in equal measure. I don't expect my tv viewing to be controlled by some religious fanatics who happen to think this programme is bad for me. If you don't like what's on tv turn the set off.

Have the religious complainers actually ever watched Jerry Springer Show, because if they had they would know what sort of weird people are on the show! Jerry has had KKK members, ongoing incest, gay/lesbian heterosexual triangle relationships, husbands cheating with wife's sister, a lot of trailer trash and much more.
The show was exactly what you would expect if you were watching Jerry Springer - the only thing that was included was very bad language, but I've heard worse on a Saturday night coming out of pubs! I watched it on TV and it was the best nights entertainment for years. Well done BBC (well worth the licence). Be brave - switch OFF. Go to bed at ten, let us adults watch it.
Damian Kelly
Apart from being offensive to Christians and "trailer trash", after an hour I was bored. As a viewer trying to remain open minded and hoping to be entertained, I was ultimately disappointed. The opera was predictable and not very intelligent. David Soul lacked any charisma, much like Jerry Springer. There were initially some very funny lines. Sadly, like any Jerry Springer show, the shock factor dissipated, and was replaced by thoughts of do they have to swear so much?
The depiction of Jesus Christ was tasteless although I did get the irony. Unfortunately, in an effort to dumb down opera to appeal to a wider audience, the writers dumbed down the story and quality of this production. P.S. I am a Christian, living on a council estate in Scarborough.

The Jerry Springer show was television at its worst. I wouldn't be so surprised if a desperate little known cable channel aired this show to achieve headlines and some easy ratings by milking viewers morbid curiosity.
I am sure a live execution would also generate high ratings and would also be "boundary-breaking", but that does not mean it is good tv, worth broadcasting or viewing. Shame on the British Broadcasting Corporation to reduce itself to this.
Rob
Of course it should be aired. If your faith is so weak as to be shaken by what is quite obviously a comedy then you have a problem far deeper than what the BBC chooses to show...
black knight
yeah i'll watch it i pay my licence fee so why shouldnt i be able to watch it. plus anyway it's gotta be better then all that miss marple i had to put with over crimbo
Amit
Religion is a choice, as is watching television. If people want to watch it .... let them - and they'll make their own minds up .... if you don't want to watch it ... don't complain .... just don't watch it.
Scott
I don't think they should show it because they are offending people's religion, they wouldn't like it if someone took the mick out of what they believed in.
ade
I unfortunately went to see it not thinking it was just going to be a funny show, I was completely shocked by the content, if I were warned before the show I would not have gone in, it got so bad I contemplated walking out mid show. I don’t think it should be shown on TV because of the strong religious content, I know many will be offended.
Sunny K
Yes OF course the BBC should show it. So what if some crazy campaigners, and religious nuts (who get offended by anything these days) are complaining? The BBC should stand by it, and show cutting edge and interesting TV.
Simone
I dont think it should be aired.
Why are we encouraging airplay of a show which builds its ratings on disharmony of life? Im sure there are other things which we could watch which could edify and educate our brains.
Keneka
As an American, I duck my head in shame about the show being aired and it's not about religion--it's just indecent television and I don't understand the appeal.
Robert Lee
TV is the ultimate democracy. You don't have to watch if you don't want to. If nobody watches it won't be repeated. I will probably watch it now.
