1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
Immigration
Polish people queueing for a bus to London

The Home Secretary's admitted - for first time - that Labour has "struggled" to control immigration.

Alan Johnson said in a speech that the problem of asylum seekers was allowed to go on for "far too long".

It's seen as a turnaround - the first time a senior government figure's recognised people's immigration concerns - and his government's not done enough to calm people's fears.

Mr Johnson says Britain's struggled to cope with a surge in arrivals and added that he thinks the problem's now being tackled well enough.

He adds that from now on he wants the "moderate majority" to have their voices heard.

What do you think about the way immigration's been handled in the past?

What should the government do to handle it better?

How has immigration affected your area?

How have immigrants benefitted the UK?

I dont have a problem with people who want to immigrate to england with the attitude that they are going to work and help to make england a more successfull country, its the immigrants who want to come here and pinch money of the system and sit around taking advantage of our over genorous government, what i dont understand is why most of the immigrants get better treatment than some of the people who were born and raised here, there are single mothers on the housing list and an immigrant is more likly to be housed quicker! this is disgusting in my view and surly a goverment should look after its own on a bigger scale, why do you think we have this problem in the first place, because the rules to immigration are to soft, one of these days britain will be full of different nationalitys and its the british that will be a minority, im not talking about race, im on about anyone who was born here, we will be the minority and this is something that is very serious, what the heck were the world wars about if were just going to roll over and hand our country over to a bunch of non brits!!

I think it is a shame and further proof of how out of touch the government is with real life in the UK that it has taken the rise in popularity of parties such as the BNP for them to finally admit to a problem which most British people have been voicing concerns about for years. I live in stoke on trent which is one of the most deprived areas in the country and is swamped with immigrants who rely on benefits and welfare services. This has resulted in a situation where you cannot get a dentist or council house etc. due to the burden of immigrants or asylum seekers and this is making people extremely angry as they feel betrayed and let down by a government which has traditionally fought for working class rights and is now more concerned with turning us into a multicultural society and getting cheap labour from abroad rather than concentrating on unemployment within British people. I can see why ministers are happy with the situation as asylum seekers cannot afford to live in their neighbourhoods and they are not competing with them for jobs or services-they probably go private and add it on their expenses, how convenient for them.

i like the though of immigration diff cultures learning about each other and the foods we eat expanding our taste, but it does not work like that does it we get people coming into this country spending our tax money Huh!! some of them even leave their kids at home and our gov pay child tax and other things for people not even living or born in the uk!! most of out bad debit is because of this common sense our gov does not seem to have!! dont get me wrong I know that they come over here for a better life...but just think how long it will till we start leaving our home searching for a better life...............

Anonym’s immigrant
Anonym’s immigrantimmigration is a global problem that should never be viewed as localised problem, the facts are the initial approach to this problem have been miss guided and misunderstood, leading to the problems we now have. If an Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Belgian, American, Canadian, Australian or Swiss man migrates to the UK there isn’t a problems or complaints. Please let's not look at the injustice alone and try to understand why an immigrant moves in the first instance, reaching a solution to this problem clear unbiased honesty is paramount. a Failing government trying to win votes by admitting it had a short sighted approach on the protracted implications of mass migration, No country No government has a working solution without risking, affecting or destroying people’s lives both the immigrants and the natives . My view is before we rally behind political spin does an immigrant affect the cost of Fuel, Oil, Gas, Food globally & locally, do they have an effect on global market indices because the ultimate reason why we hate migrants it's all to do with money. if they can freely contribute and help the economy out of a recession and pay their tax then why not allow those that want to work work & those that don't leave and payback what is owed.
