1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
What's up with hoodies?
Hoodies
Do you get why they're so scary?
Go shopping in Merseyside these days and you might have to take your hood down and your cap off.
Shops are being supplied with police posters saying that the headgear's got to come off if you want to go inside.

It's because people can't be identified on CCTV with their faces in shadow - and police say "Many offenders use such disguises when offending".

Have the police and shops got the right to tell you how to dress? Do kids with hoods up come across intimidating to you?
If you have to take off your crash helmet in the bank, then is it fair enough to take your hood down in shops? How come hoods up seems so scary to people?

CJ
You have to take your crash helmet off in any store that is the law, so caps are no different really, its still head gear

Caroline
The minority who do the crime are now ruining it for the people who wear their hoods up to keep warm/fashion etc. Hoods have always been associated with mystery & crimes for centuries. In the olde days men had to take off their hats anyway, when they went indoors as it was good manners. Who wears a cap indoors tho? It looks so stupid!

Andrew
You`ve gotta be joking? Of course retailers have a right to ask this.. If you don`t like it, shop or steal elsewhere.

Jurgen
I was in London in the summer and could not understand why people wore a hood, caps and big coats when the weather was 29 degrees. These people smell very bad and are not cool.

James Goodman
If its a shop where hoodies are sold then I dont really think there is an argument.

Lovedaddy
Whay the yoots feel it necessary to wear such chav-style garms is beyond me. Hoods and caps looks stupid and have too many negative conatations... They're just unnecessary....!

Neney
i think if the police stop letting us wear hoodies crime will slow down but people will still wear hoodies because thats whats in now.

Rich
I think it's not really gonna go down too well especially with the younger generation. Fair enough if they ask massive groups of kids to split up who you can tell aren't there to spend money but in my opinion this would go against human rights as mentioned below, you can't make people remove veils so why make someone remove their hat!?

Eidur
problem with hoodies is that they've been adopted by scallies as a means of disguising themselves, as the article says. i think shop retailers just need to use their discretion. if someone walks into a shop wearing a nike cap, hoody, reebok tracksuit bottoms and rockport boots then i wouldn't even let em in my shop let alone make them simply remove their cap n hood.

Im a female and was in London a few weeks back. One night we went to the Trocadeiro Center and I was wearing a black tracksuit. It was a really cold night up and was wearing my hood up, i walked through the doors, only to be told to leave the premises as I entered with my hood up. I thought this was really unnecessary as I was doing no harm walking around with four of my girl friends. There were plenty boys boppin around with caps on and I don't understand why they could wear their caps but I couldnt wear my hood. The worst of it was I then had to walk round with 'hood hair' after not being able to wear my hood - the shame!!!!

Philip
And what about those people who wear those full veil types that have slits for eyes? You won't make them take them off 'cos they'll claim Racial Discrimination!
