Euro 2004: Feel safer?
The Portuguese say anyone known to pose a risk won't be allowed in
Sven's asked for good behaviour
Up to 2,500 suspected footie hooligans are going to have their passports confiscated so they can’t go to Euro 2004.
That’s a record number of travel bans – and compares with 100 in Belgium and the Netherlands.

About 60,000 England fans are still expected to be at the tournament starting on 12 June. Portugal has started up controls all around the country’s border to stop troublemakers getting in.

Police there plan to stick with a “softly, softly” approach unless fans behave so badly they need to step up the tactics.
Do you think tougher security will make any difference? What else would make you feel safer? Have you ever been caught in violence at a match?  Tell us your stories.

Bill
UEFA have assured me that all tickets that have been sold on to third parties are invalid and those holding them WILL be turned away at the grounds. I have supplied them with a comprehensive list of those selling them so they can identify the ticket numbers. As such, I expect all matches to be played in half empty stadia. Like hell. UEFA will do nothing because they've got their money. It is a disgrace.

How can they say the security will be tight when they haven't got a clue who actually has tickets !!! In Japan+Korea in 2002 and Holland+Belgium in 2000, each match ticket had the individual name on of the person entering the ground. I have recently recieved my tickets for Portugal and the tickets only have the name of the lead person in the party on them. Therefore theoretically as the lead person, where I have 3 tickets for a game, I could give the other 2 away to anyone I wanted. It just doesn't make sense whatsoever !!!
