1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
When no means no
Woman in distress
Speaker
Why do a third of people in the UK believe it's the woman's fault when she's raped if she was drunk?
1Xtra hears the personal stories of three women who have been brave enough to come forward and tell their story.

We look at rape when alcohol or drug spiking and ask why 92% of rape cases are by people you know.

Plus we consider the difficulties of bringing a rape case to court.
When does mean no? Should a woman be able to claim rape if she was drunk at the time? How big an issue is drug spiking? Is there enough support for rape victims?

Damian
Drunk or not, that's never a justification for rape. (Regardless of whether the victim was male or female, I might add, since men get raped too!)

Deczy
Rape is rape.!whether drunk on n0t..!

emma
I believe that whether or not alcohol has been used or not, rape is rape and it is disgusting. how can any other human person destroy someones life like that for a quick thrill. no circumstance of rape should every be justified or excused

John jj
When woman is drunken she has no right to claim that she is RAPED.

ian
what if both are drunk?

tusi
of course its not the womans fault.....rape is a direct action...does the rapist stop n check whether shes drunk? would he even bother to ask?..alcohol is drunk at nearly every function...yes,,,i admit that there should be precautions,..but how the hell can anyone know whether they will be raped??...alcohol makes a person more vulnerable..so when it is taken...at least do so with close mates???but then again the close mated might be rapists???....i think we should just stay alert..be sure.....and know who and what you are doin befor u do it....

Santosh S
If u do consensual sex its okay.......but RAPE a woman ..just a sin..as it is henious crime...wheteher she was drunk or not does nt matter..

natalie
bann alcohol?

phoebe
it doesn't matter whether you're drunk or not. taking advantage of women when she's not sober is total sin. i think the court should practice equity in such situations, because if the woman definitely suffers whether she wins the case or not.
