Gay in JA - 2004

WARNING: some may find the content in this documentary offensive
Four years ago 1Xtra visited Jamaica to see how homophobia affected life for gay people there. In 2008 we return to see what’s changed.
We catch up with Michael a young gay student trying to cope with a society that's largely hostile to his lifestyle.

We also hear from volunteers working at - Jamaica Forum for Lesbians All-sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) - the country's only refuge for gay men and women.

Can anyone have an openly homosexual relationship in a country that is so openly homophobic?
What do you make of Michael's story? Do you know anyone who has experienced similar problems? Tell us what you think...

You cannot judge what you don't understand! People feel this way not neccessarily out of choice. You cannot help who you are attracted to. And how can you mention God like you're a good Christian?? If you were a good Christian person you would be more accepting of all people. Only God can judge!! So I suggest you open your mind and let people be!

who am i? God i dont think so, if God can forgive the prostitute, regardless of the moral consequences who are we, yes it looked upon as an evil deed in much religions. i was brought up practising christian, but i believe, the only person who can judge anyone is God almighty above, after all we all make mistakes, we all have done things you "shouldn't have done" but did it anyway.
