1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
World's most powerful woman
Condoleezza Rice
Listen to the documentary
Growing up in segregated Alabama, Condoleezza Rice wasn't allowed into 'white shops'.
In a town where black people couldn't use the library, she fought back by getting educated. 'Condie' speaks four languages, graduated in political science - and is a talented musician.

So why isn't she respected by a lot of African Americans? Why is she getting criticised a lot in hip hop - such as on Nas' track The American Way?

As US secretary of state, she supported Bush on invading Iraq. TX goes back to her roots - to her school and church - to see how this black woman rose so high.
What impression does Condoleezza make on you? Is she an inspiration?

no man is an island
what goes on in the global arena is so far beyond what most of us are given access to makes it virtually impossible to even begin to make judgements concerning the integrity of this woman. Unless any of us has been invited to her thanksgiving dinner we don't know her and should allow her that freedom. oneloveoneworldonemusic, one

i find it strange that, in less than a two-minute time span, your documentary revealed that Condi Rice and her family chose not to participate in Birmingham, AL, demonstrations during the most critical period of one of the world's greatest social movements for human rights, yet for the remainder of the broadcast you harped on the fact that she and her family believed that she could "do anything." apparently, "anything" didn't mean standing up and joining with others in solidarity rather than focusing blindly on one's own interests...

Ya know it's like they say, everyone has an opinon like every bathroom has a toilet. So it's time for me to flush, everyone looks at her as a "bad person". I don't think that she has had the chance to put her newly founded power to work yet, (the key word "yet") she is still learning the ropes of the "good ole boy" network, so I do think that she will break ground and be a leader and a dam good if given the chance.

I believe she has achieved alot as a black woman and a woman in general, but an inspiration she is not, all she shows is what type of person and things you have to agree with to get to the top. Do you think she would be where she is if she was rallying for equal rights?? I don't think so. So for all those who consider her an inspiration, realise what type of black woman you have to be to get to were she is.

It’s a shame that we (blacks) seem to latch onto any popular black person in a high position whether it be in politics, entertainment or sports, regardless of their credibility or deeds. I as a black person I find it patronizing that if one of us in the lime light is “articulate” as mentioned by someone in the documentary, then its seen as them being gifted or something. With all that power and status, you would think that her past would have some kind of influence on how she operates today. With what we have endured, we’ve recognized and highlighted the suffering of others around the world going back to the days of Malcolm X and Dr. King. MAYBE MS. RICE SHOULD TOO AND MAKE A POSITVE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.

Condelezza Rice did the best that she could at a time when she couldn't. We need to respect where's she has got to, how she has got there and look to do the same. As a black female and as a black person in a predominately white world/ industry she has done exceptionally.

YES THIS WOMAN IS POWERFUL SMART AND TALENTED. BUT SHE SHOULD PUT ALL OF THAT POWER AND TALENT WHERE IT BELONGS. HELPING OUT THE BLACKS, AND NOT BE BUSHES PUPPET

Uzo
To be honest i dont know much about her history, but the fact that she supported bush when invading Iraq is not a good sign. However i do feel that she has made an acheivement in becoming the US secretary of state as a Black woman, she should be honoured for doing that alone

diablo
personally, i dont like her, i think she just says yes to whatever bush says so she can get promoted

mia
Even tho she grew up in segregated Alabama, she never stood up for her rights, she didnt demonstrate she dint do nutin like dat, like all the others who did and died for thier rights, now shes got the power to make things right she aint, shes just workin with the people who are doin the same thing to the Iraqis...

Erika
For me she is definitely not an inspiration. It is very disappointing from a high educated woman (like her) to stand by war and killing innocent people. It is nothing to do with her skin colour, it is just shame that educated or uneducated, black and white, yellow people support war all around the World! She should have used her knowledge and intelligence for better purposes!
