Neil Kanhai-Saunders
My father Rohan Kanhai played with Sir Gary Sobers through to Lloyd Sir Viv and coached Lara to name but a few, and the joy they have brought to all cricket lovers around the world overs the years is as warm as the sun shining down from above Thankyou West Indies

I am a true Windies supporter. I was there when the great Sir Gary Sobers declared in Trinidad and lost to England. That was the end of Hall and Griffith era. I have seen the Windies rebound to the great team of the eighties and then fall in the nineties; with the departure of the greatest quartet of fast bowlers. Presently with the "World's Greatest Batsman" at the helm, it is only a matter of time before they rise again. The world needs the Windies to provide the excitement they have been denied for the past ten years. The Windies are coming-look out world, Lara and his bunch of young stars will do it. Watch the next series in Australia. I now reside in Malaysia, but will always rally oround the West Indies.

while no longer the team of old... lara, sarwan, gayle have simultaneously conspired to make us dream again. long live west indies and it too shall prevail !

The effect of West Indian cricket on the world scene has a similar impact to that of Brazil's great football teams. Everyone enjoys watching the West Indians the same way everyone derives great pleasure watching the South Americans in their gold and green football strip mesmerise their opponents.

There is something about the cavalier way in which both of these flamboyant and greatly gifted set of athletes when at their peak go about their sports that inspires their own supporters and most importantly win the unstinting admiration of the neutral supporters around the world.

Put simply, no other team in world cricket can play with the nonchalance and free flowing stroke play of a Gary Sobers, Rohan Kanhai, Viv Richards and Brian Lara. Similarly the grace of Holding, the menace of Roberts and Patterson, the guile and brilliance of Marshall and the sheer skills of Garner and Ambrose will arguably never be bettered.

Windies cricket has gone a full circle. From the heights of success to the depths of defeat. To invincible masters to tame amateurs this team has seen it all. I guess every cricket team does but in the case of the Windies it just was remarkably evident.

But they are the best team when it comes to sportsmanship. Even now. The Midas touch of Sir Sobers on the field, the opening pair of Greenidge & Haynes which made us wonder why they needed other batsmen in the team, their pace attack from the deadly Marshall to the miserly Walsh. Dujon,Logie,Sir Richards, Patterson,Ambrose... it goes on.

All these players I'm talking about are not just players but icons who just changed the way cricket was played. They are milestones in the never ending road of the history of cricket. In short, without the Calypso I guess cricket would always miss the juice and spirit it carries.

Sher Akhtar khan
I am also a great fan of West Indies cricket. Of all the names mentioned nobody has mentioned the names of the three W's. They were as great as any other player mentioned in the e-mails.

Andrew
In the West Indies, cricket is not only a game it is part of the culture which helps to mould characters.

ian
i am from jamaica i eat sleep and dream cricket i hope and pray we will reach the top again

Mahbub AKhter, Cork, Ireland
Calypso cricket and Reggae are the two best things in the world.

raja.murtaza.tahir
ups and downs are part of game although westindies has suffered a lot in last decade but they have shown a great fighting spirit many many times. i cant forget the victory against south africa in first match of the world cup 2003.

west indies current players need to put cricket back into it's historical context as it relates to west indians as a whole. It's time for them to get the passion of W.I. cricket back and start to win again.

Amin, Mississauga, Canada
West Indies is one of the best in world, they have produced the greatest ever players over the years, players like Viv Richards, Lara, Clive Llyod, Holding, Garner, Haynes are just few of them.

Sathish Madabusi
cricket is a passion for me. i grew up idolising the great Sir Viv Richards and dominance he showed, enjoyed curtly and courtney givin nightmares for batsmen all over the world, cherished watching Brian Lara battling single handedly for his team. I always believe Sir Viv is the KING of cricket and Lara is the PRINCE.

LOVE WINDIES FOR EVER! LOYD IS NUMBER ONE!

Raaj Rana
To Ali's grace and Pele's nonchalance, add Richards' swagger.

Shimoo Choudhury
I love watching the flair which oozes out the the windies team whenever they bat.....its great and compelling viewing.......oh yeah I'm a huge windies fan!

Zia, Canada
70's is the great moment for the West Indies cricket team. You knew before the game start who is going to win and how this match will go, this is not for the one day but also for the test match. No team could face the "Black Winds" or the "Full Charged Battery". At that time they are not good with balls only they are also strong with the bat. I wish W'Indies will generate the same momentum again.

Ganesh, NJ
There's never going to be a VIV II.. The all-time greatest and authoritative batsman !!!

Anushka, Sri Lanka
I think WI is still a pretty good team. They will be a better team in the near future when youngsters get more experience in international cricket.

Julian, Curacao
As a younger man I watched a lot of cricket at the Adelaide oval. The only man at the time who could return a ball from the long on boundary to the keeper on the full was Michael Holding. He had an incredible arm and his skill and athleticism typified the team that was the 'Windies' in that period.

wazir
westindies cricket, presently lack guys with discipline, determinitation and character. This applies to both the team and the administration. we have to change our culture of thinking we cannot dwell on the past and just hope the future will be ok. ofcourse we had our glory dayz with the legend of the past -lloyd, richards, sobers, holding, marshall, khanai, abbrose, walsh, dujon, garner, walcott, weeks, worell, to name a few, but what comfort can that give us presently when we are being embarrased by england, australia, south africa.

DEVON, Jamaica
I did not have the privelege of growing up with an all-powerful, all-conquering West Indies team, but I do have the pleasure of collecting the history of an incredible era. As I listen to others recalling the prowess of the likes of the 3ws, Sobers, Kanai, Hall, Griffiths, Lloyd, Marshall, Holding Richards etc, I cant help but be taken back to a time before me. The history of West Indies Cricket is a treasure worth keeping and I'm proud of this institution that is an indelible part of our identity.

Ronnie Chopra
Gayle, Lara, Sarwan, Chanderpaul and then Powell to blow away the opposition. People say India have the best batting line up, surely those names rank above any of the other teams?

Mr.Narendra Anjarlekar.
I like westindian playeer game sp. when Grinij & Fredricks comes they start fantastic scor every time, after that Viv Richard batting we like to see his 4/6.

richard
windies will rise again because they are a strong team on paper but everyone on the team need to play responsible to get back at number 1

ifty Uk
Truly a great tradtional team that have brought in true greats like Sir Sobers, Lara, Ambrose, Walsh, Marshall and especially Michael Holding. Long live this great cricketing nation!!

Mujeeb Syed
My dream team from the Windies: Haynes, Greenidge, Richards, Lloyd, Richardson, Logie, Dujon, Marshall, Garner, Holding, Roberts. They were awesome and those were the awesome 80's. I always miss them in action. There was so much team work , coordination, responsibility and tremendous amount of talent in each one of these individuals. It would be not only solid entertainment watching them play but also a good coaching for budding cricketers. I am a fan of windies cricket and I wish the current team picks up some tips from the destructive bunch of the 80's. All the best to them and congratulations for winning the ICC champions trophy.

Alasdair, Australia
Sport is not always about winning, but the way in which it is played and you can't go past the style and coolness of the Windies team on the field.

I
West Indies are very unpredictable, as they showed when touring England, losing all tests and then winning the ICC trophy.

Karthik , England
I am always a great fan of the windies cricket side. it produced many exciting players like sir sobers, richards, marshall, holding, kanhai, lara, ambrouse, walsh, sarwan ...

Arun, NY
Viv Richards chewing gum, Pat Patterson runup from the ropes, malcom marshall nose breaker, brian lara cover drive, there went my childhood....

Stephen Xavier
I am from Guyana now living in Canada. I grew up with Rohan, Basil, Lance, Joe, Fedricks, Lloyd,Robert. You could not see better cricket when these players were in action. In my youth I never missed the first ball in a test at the GCC ground [Bourda. Those we the days I can remember driving pass the DCC ground and stopping because Lance was bowling.

Losing an hour of time but enjoying this great bowler in action.I will always remember Lloyd's power, Kanhai's stroke play, Butcher's leg side strength, Soloman's defence, his sweet sounding bat, Robert's footwork chipping and driving, seeing Fedricks scoring 100s in each innings against Barbados, the second 100 studded with boundaries to all parts of Bourda. "Memories"...

zahir, Afghanistan
West Indies are great - Lara is number one.
