I lived in glasgow for 11 years and got racially abused at a jeruthadamaja gig in glasgow(the irony was not lost on me) and I have been in other circumstances by so called scottish hiphop people. It is a predominantly white scene which I feel has no real overstand of the true roots of hiphop. I think that Scotland does not deserve to have access to any black music unless a total re -education takes place which at the moment is a long way off.

WERD IS THE BEST SCOTTISH RAPPER! I LOVE HIM

it's fair to say that doing any documentary of this nature will inevitably leave some people out, there just isn't the time measure to fit EVERYONE in Scotland who's involved in the hip hop scene in one half hour seg. This is a miniature slice of a very vibrant scene in Scotland. So big up your brothers and sisters getting their shine on rather than focusing on who's not seen.

I agree with loads of the stuff said on here about the different scottish rappers, but I saw NorthernXposure when the girl in their crew was like 14 waaay before some of the other guys ure @jez!!! I don't think young f exhisted then? Anyway I love mungos and bigggggup to northernxposure and the rest! p.s. chill it seems like the journalist just did a sample of what was available in scotland probably according to whom he could see really doing things at that time. I doesn't mean there aren't any other musicians in scotland ;)

Like its been said, no mention of one of Scotland biggest cities, Aberdeen.. Also because you've focused on the southern Scottish cities your question on accent loses somthing as north to south/east to west the "Scottish Accent" changes drastically....Why did you ask, should people rap in Gaelic...PeaceSaor Alba

how about you all stop moaning what and who didnt make it.... whenever that "scene" gets any publicity outside your extremely small domain, either artists excluded themselves or their little minions flood it with negative and ugly chat, the same mentality that keeps so many people cringing and wincing from the mere mention of it in the first place. If your a artist outraged that you didnt make the cut this time around, you obviously only want it for braggin rights to your friends and family....a sensible and self confident artist with self belief would know the impact on your "career" from one feature on bbc radio would be non existant, so stop spitting the dummy out, enjoy that the scene is even having the time spent on it that you could benefit from indirectly and work on making your music more than it currently is.... i wont get into individuals cause many left out do deserve to be involved, in theory, but not definitively in this or every case.I find it remarkable that you cant see how much your bitterness is one of the major reasons why you or your favourite regional artist are never taken seriously.

The Black music scene? so hiphop dnb and dubstep are all black music? weird.

Good to hear people due some respect on the beeb. But why no Young Fathers? They're one of the biggest up and coming groups from Scotland, new style old skool electro beats, original MCs. Wah a gwan?

@ Djamba-I agree with you point that Aberdeen has done a lot for the scene but unfortunately I can't see how in 25mins you can mention every city in Scotland. I think Profisee has managed to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. As for the the people I rate in Edinburgh at the moment there's loads....-Soom-T-Cloak x Dagger-Akira Kiteshi-Paranoise-Rustie-Hudson MohawkeAll worth checking out!

Hip Hop and rap music has always been about telling a story- your story and the streets and neighbourhoods you grew up in and live on whether it's New York, LA, London or Glasgow. The genre has evolved differently across the globe with lots of local and global influences on all scenes. Personally I think using a local accent brings something else to the table and lets kids coming up see that you don't have to be from NYC or LA to kick it!

it doesnt matter where u from it all abt the the lyrics and how good thatyou put them across also abt how big the tuen is and doesnt matter whats race either x

to me i think is cool when MC are flowing in their accent, for example rappers in america are flowing with their accent and we all love it and find it cool. like other rappers in london, wales! NORTHERNXPOSURE in scotland are doing great too with scottish accent, this guys are cool for real with the native accent.

Where the hell is the respect for the forefathethers of Scottish Hip Hop? No Two Tone Committee, No Eastborn, No Major Threat, No Sentinalez, No Glasgow Allstars, No Sugar Bullet, NO CLUE! Typical BBC, where has INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM GONE!
Djamba
interesting, enjoyed listening to it and good for exposure. although i dont understand why aberdeen never even got a look in, when you've got people like tez who's been running jungle nation for 12 years and the club snafu which picked up scottish nightclub of the year twice in a row....really exciting things going on in aberdeen both old and new, so i think its a real shame you failed to include it. obviously you can't mention every single thing going on in scotland, but aberdeen is one of the biggest citys and has a lot going on right now.
mohammed
well, scotland should have their own kind of grime scene to be fair but i dont think it will be i major notice around britian.

I totally agree with mo..natural, native language has best sound and its more real.. Scotland got many great dj's..my favourite Dj Redrum..not local but rockin local scene!

i think at the end of the day, people need to stop concentrating on representing where they are from so much and concentrate on making great music... great music shall prevail no matter where you are from, or where you are at.people get too stuck in trying to represent so much they forget to make good music..music is here to enjoy, so lets just do that.

I don't think it really matters whether you rap or sing in your accent or not. It's about the artist feeling comfortable with their sound; even if it's not their accent. I think most of us listen to singers and rappers for the topics they base their songs on and if they have a good voice. Much Love ;)

i saw that group NorthernXposure perfroming in bristol and in scotland years ago . .they are aaaaamazing and that girl Preminitions is really really cool. They sound mad coz they are Scottish but she is the greates female MC i have ever heard
J
I think peeps should MC/Rap in their natural Accents - I went to an I love live in B'ham last year. And saw a Irish MC and he broke it down for real..and it was because he MCed in his own accent and about Irish issues and the crowd including me went mad...it was different and refreshing. OWN ACCENT IS REAL AND WHEN THE MC IS SICK ITS LIKE BRAAP!
