Human beatboxing used to be the stuff of comedy films, a hip hop relic put on the shelf along with the Fatboys.
But new talent like Rahzel and UK-born Killa Kela have heralded a resurgence in the artform in the last few years.

We find out how beatboxing has lost its novelty tag and gained credibility. We catch up with originators like Doug E Fresh as well as asking where it's going now.

Plus there's a chance to get a tips from the experts in our own 1Xtra beatboxing lesson. It’s a chance to do the click roll and vocal scratch with the best of them!
Are you into beatboxing? Who are your favourite vocal artists?

No ladies in the beatbox game? How come?

Jonny Dub. London
i have always found that the human beatbox always sounds better live, studio tracks can never seem to pull it off in my opinion. is this just me who thinks that?

Tony Chestnut
First add the high hat and snare of Killa Kela, mix with bass and kick of Mr Def, then garnish with a sprinkling of cuts and vocals from Rahzel. A recipe for the craziest beatbox track ever

simon
I gotta say for U.K, drool skool are off the wall, really innovative stuff, monkey moo is somthing else too, kela is sick.... my personal fav out of all countries goes to kenny muhammed, the guy is a genius!

lil lady j
gimme a beatboxer everytime, them guys have the most malleable lips and tongue mmmmm

drumma
the best ever beatbox track was Latoya by Just Ice, his beats were done by a guy called DMX (not the one who barks). Nowadays no one has surpassed that track so lets see Killa Kela, Rahzel, MrDEF, Monkey Moo, Kenny Muhammed and Scratch try.

Stevy Jones
SHLOMO! SHLOMO! The best in the UK and probably the world by FAR!

Rough Tough & Dangerous-Blench Recordings
The guy you need to look out for is called 'Mistical Oracle' he got flava and a trunk full of sound effects and flows the deserve awards!

ibrahim

chris willow
you need to listen to: monkey moo, killa kela, mr def and slomo. uk all the way

Don Dada
Everyone talks about Kenny Muhammed, but has anyone actually heard him? I like the stuff coming from the UK, much fresher and more unique than the Americans (keep up the good work A-Plus)

Sue
ready roc c, the fat boys, doug e fresh, louie lou, sir mixalot, the best ones are the old ones. keep beatboxing old school i say. too much "multi vocal" stuff makes it sound messy.

Francis the ghanian
without a dout my man Monkey Moo is the best the uk has to offer. That brother is dope!!!

darrick tariq-nice edwards
i've been beatboxing for years. my influences are all old skool beatboxers like buffy, doug e fresh, biz markie, ready roc-c, razhel, and kenny. just name a few.notice one they all have there own flavor. you can id them by that. my favorite is kenny muhammed. he is so technical. no limit for him. keep rocking kenny.

yasSon
I gotta say Spy Eyes from Holland, who is a member of HumanBeatbox.com. Famous beatboxers? Kenny Muhammed, Click tha supah latin, Saian Supa Crew and Kela... Watch out for Mouthmaster Murf, the sickest vocal scratcher ever from england.

BeatMuppet
As a rabid beatboxer, I gotta say that Kela is the man. Kenny Muhammed is also awesome.

adrian beagley
shlomo and the drool skool are my favourites, they were on eastenders once

DissMaster
rahzel is not bad but does the same old stuff. killa kela, kenny muhammed, biz markie and buffy (now dead) were my favorites. i heard mrdef at opium garden in miami at the wmc and he rocked the crowd like no other

Matty L
a new up and cummin beatboxa iz Miciod, i heared him at a club nd he is 'boom',and he is only 16

Miciod
Ya, I iz really into beatboxin and I’m gradually improvin. I’m always downloadin Rahzel’s beats an learn from dem. so watch this space. I wanna start performin and gettin a rep.

tony osborne
you really need to hear Mr DEF, more beats than killa kela and lots less messing around on stage! killa kela's still good, but not quite as good as MD. rahzel has been doing the same act for 10 years.

BASS BEATZ
Alrite this is a beatboxer from northern england. It's a class hobby and can wow everyone! My personal favourite beatboxers would have to be either appointed S or the man himself Kenny Muhammed!!! Safe.
