i got on the wrong side of some blads on my estate and they terrorized me, i think that abso's saved my life

Asbos should be scrapped... another short-term solution to a long-term problem.
I say every MP that voted for these to be introduced should be put under ASBO so they know what it's like. They are quite stupid, ignorant and arrogant to avoide attacking the root causes of anti social behaviour instead they give it a short term solution.
This is coming from a 14 year old, with MANY friends on ASBOs...

Its right I mean y should teenagers get away wiv sumthing that if adults did they'd b in prison straight away!
Lil J
i think they should at least try and help them get better because they can only get worse on their own. If they 'name n shame em' then they will only rebel because they will feel upset and just cause more distress. so i think they should help them and use the current method as a last resort.

its unfair to brand every teenager with the same label. me and my friends have nowhere better to go, so sittin in a bus shelter chattin is the most exciting it gets. if the government put more money into teenagers and set up youth clubs/sports facilities around more areas you wouldnt have such a problem.

I can see it’s a good idea and that, but the police have to actually make sure what the person is doing is actually anti social behaviour. i know someone at my school who got ASBO for playing loud music in his car whilst travelling at night and almost got sent to prison. he could have just had a warning, then maybe an ASBO. I mean there actually people threatening people out there harming life surely they are more important to be chasing? altho there are extremes when i think ABSO is a gd thign. Memba its not all teens that are bad - sum of us are nice people! x

its not all down to the parent's as mark vm said above as i know a realy nice couple who did everything for there teenage son and he still got a asbo and sent to prison. yet they sent him to school got him a place on a local spport's team and everything else yet he tor away and got in to the wrong crowed. so dont just blame the parent's you should insted blame the person who got the asbo in the first place becuse they did whatever they did to get it there parents didn't.
Kev
I work with young people at a pupil referal unit many of whom have ASBOs, It does very little to stop the young people carrying on as normal, more money should be spent on preventing the causes of anti-social behaviour such as poor parenting, education and rubbish policing.

People hanging out with their mates shouldn't be given asbos. If you give a teen a restriction many are going to break it and right. me and my mates had to dodge police because there was 9 of us and it was a nightmare and it could have been avoided. the police should deal with more serious things than groups of teens. all most want to do is hang out not everyone want to vandalise.
lauren
i know tons of my mates who live in a rougher area to me & a few of them are on asbo. but, they aren't really to blame because there is nothing for them to do in the local area & drugs & alcohol are a big problem where they are from, so they get into it, start dealing or buying, cause mayhem in the streets because that is ALL there is to do for them down there. I think that if there was more things for teenagers & children to do in the area they wouldn't be on asbo.

How can it be fair to stereo typically target teens? Its just another way of making a teens life even more boring, i for one would normally be hanging out with at least four people (including myself). I mean, put it this way, what would the public think if a group of four 30 year olds were put in prison for being out in a group? Exactly.. So how is it fair to do it to teens?
Ben
The excuse for this behaviour is that they have nothing to do? What about the library or sports? ASBOs teach these would be criminals that crime never pays. The message is if you affect our rights by behaving like a chav / ned / scally, society will take away your rights.

I've seen homeless people being given ASBOs for begging. Fair enough it's illegal to beg, but it isn't going to solve the root cause is it?
Andrew
ASBOs are the best thing Tony Blair has done in the past 7 years. No-one should be allowed to ruin people's lives and get away with it.
The perpetrators should be ofered some sort of help with understanding their responsibilities.
Nick
ASBOs allow a conservative judiciary far wider control of an offender's life than is fair. While the idea of modifying offending behaviour, rather than simply punishing it, seems attractive, ASBOs have potential to be seriously misused.

what a fantastic thing asbos are, if a person does something wrong, they should be punished and prevented from doing it again, it's as simple as that.

Lock dem all up till they appreciate to walk the streets of England. Some kids in other countries cant even go out with out a bomb going off and these ones over here just want to mash up the contry then complain that they dont have nothing to do.
Alex Cary
This isn't just about teenagers anymore. Its about everybody. There are many adults under asbos. Our civil liberties are at risk - its not up to the courts and the legal system to make up offences that they can imprison us for. We all carry out misdemeanours which might be construed as crimes. We can't all be threatened with prison.

What did Shaun do? He must have done something to get this ASBO. I for one am happy that these ASBO's are actually being handed out. Britain is under siege by these young people who intimidate the local populous. It all stems back to poor parenthood.
It is sad that it has gotten to the state that discipline has to be given by the law when it is the responsibility of the parent. People say the young people have nothing to do! Go to school, play a sport for a team, get a hobby. What a pitiful excuse to say that one has nothing to do and so decides to terrorise the neighbourhood!
The parent should send her child to school or make him get a job. It is sad to see this happening all over Britain now. Britain must have the highest amount of useless parents in the world. I can only see British society degrade further without the use of these orders. So I want more orders and if the state can do anything to get these youths some discipline I am all for it.

Changing the anti-social behaviour of a teenager is a long term undertaking. Meanwhile communitites need the protection and reassurance which ASBOs can provide.
lucyhg
communities need help when tackling problem teens. this is a drastic measure but something must be done. with regards to the actual teenagers - it should be enough deterrent for the next one who thinks about it. cant be fun but: if you cant to the time dont do the crime!
