the youth today are nothing but pathetic and the silly thing is the more press they get the better they feel. Its not a culture, we are not in a hood, and wearing a hood is not fashionable...get over this want to be gangster phase and grow up. The press wouldn't have to report anything negative if there wasn't something to write about and besides certain members of the youth community hardly portray any positive aspects anyway.

I think the youth of today get bad press and some do not behave appropriately.Yes to do get bad press and not all them are that bad. The media sometimes does not show he positive aspects of what the kids are doing. I believe the household structure of the children of the past is different from the children of the future. Their need to be more love in the home.

I think the media do put young youths in a bad light most of the time. They have to realise that there are good aspects such as, pass rates for G.C.S.E’s in this country have been good, so it means that there are working hard to become the best that can be. Many younger people are going into education, there is a major improvement comparing to what we have seen the last 10 years, so young people are choosing the right path. The media have always done this, I personally think we will see improvement, telling more positive news does help, these knife crimes should stop, it is getting silly, but we can only hope for the best.

Its all political!!! Think about it.... there needs to be more money going into funding for youths to be doing positive things and to get positive influnenced people involved in helping. the goverment put there money into all the wrong things. If the media show/do/help with more positive things that would be a start to having good press to encourage the youths

They definately do get alot of negative media, which is understandable because there are too many young people commiting crime, and too many young people dying. There is however a lot of young people doing positive things who get ignored. I am involved in a football team which me and a group of friends started to get some youths off the streets and build skills such as team work. I am also doing my university placement in a school well known for having pupils involved in gang activity. In the school it seems that teachers concentrate too much on minor things such as uniform rather than the pupils academic work. It seems the only way the youth can get recognized is to do negative things.

i think if the press encourage in some ways . . these days every1 wants 2 rep there ends n dats wer da crime starts dumbass pride n showin off 2ya ppl . . .if it ain't da paper the town ain't recongnised as much so by the press putin da crime in da media crime will increase!

Maybe if youths today started to grow up and behave like adults, rather than trying to "show off" in front of Their friends then this wouldn't be the case. Unfortunately there is more of the likes of bad behaviour than there is good in communities today not to mention the media receiving more sales when publishing sotries such as this. Yes so there are a small minority whic are withing good general behaviour but let's face the facts in pretty much every town in day and night there are always some intimindating groups of youths showing off and causing trouble.

I dont think its fair on young people getting such a bad name. Because of what half of the population are doing it shouldnt be a case where you point out everyone because this person has done this or that person done that. Also instead of making a change and trying to change everything you hear the same thing everytime.
Josh
yes youth are getting bad press as some kids do stabbings robbing etc but some do not do a thing and the press target all youths when its certain groups doing idiotic things and it is not fair targeting all teenagers when some do right things like working and staying out of trouble. press should not target all teenagers!!
Jordan Augusta
Yes, as a 15 year old I know youth are getting bad press stabbings ,gun crime etc all over the news and the young people that are doing good and making a difference are not getting noticed. It's almost like people my age and older are getting rewarded for being bad. Also i don't like the way black boys are being some of what targeted altho figures etc would say that black boys etc are generally in more crime than any other type or what ever but because of this there is people begining 2 assume cause u are black you are trouble. This is not the case. Also i think the way 2 deal with these issues regarding youth crime is for adults who see a youth causing trouble should be able 2 tell him 2 stop etc. Children are doing what they do cause they allowed.
Diina
Yes i definitely think youths get bad press. A teenager myself, i'm not trying to say they don't cause trouble, because the majority do, yet what can society expect, a) we're kids b) in most communities there are not many places for youths to go or feel they're welcome to be.
The negative stereotypes start from parents, teachers too complete strangers, what kind of messgae and confidence does this send out to us?!
It's no wonder the streets are so dangerous, media promote badness, violence and gangs more then they're promoting kids who are actually doing good in communities and could spend more time promoting what youths could positively be doing and showing that this is actually possible. One shout is louder than a thousand whispers, yet a thousand shouts is louder than one, we need as many voices too help postivily influence, it takes everyone!
Natz
They cause it on themselves, simply!!!
John
youths are most probably only getting bad press because they are doing a lot more bad in the community then good :(
billy
personally i think the newspapers do need to stop writing this as it just gives the public someone to point at and say they're the reason our society is crumbling. When i walk down i get looked at and treated like a scumbag just cos i like to wear a tracksuit and chill with a few of my mates and indulge in what keeps me happy. I'm just like anyone else - I respect people. I'm not cheeky im polite and still i get treated like a piece of dirt cos im under the age of 20 and wear jogging bottoms. I think its disgusting

It seems that at the minute, the only thing the youth of this country get recognition for is commiting savage acts of violence and causing crime within communities across the U.K.
The media needs to start offering a balanced view to this debate highlighting positive things that young people do like youth community programmes that aim to bring kids off the street rather than encouraging them to stay on the streets.
The govenment thinks by holding a few debates, influencing the media on what they write - that the recent knife crime influx will just dissapear when the fact of the matter is this problem will never dissapear.
It's just a case of reducing the problem and convincing people that by carrying a weapon you are more at risk of being targeted.
