Sarah-Jane's Book Club takes place every Sunday afternoon, 1300-1600 on 1Xtra. There'll be lots of banter on books, guest reviewers and chats with authors, but most importantly we want YOU to share your thoughts and opinions in our end of month reviews!

March - Glamour: A History by Stephen Gundle

Synopsis:

Glamour is one of the most tantalizing and bewitching aspects of contemporary culture - but also one of the most elusive.

The aura of celebrity, the style of the fashion world, the vanity of the rich and beautiful, and the publicity-driven rites of cafe society are all imbued with its irresistible magnetism. But what exactly is glamour? Where does it come from? How old is it? And can anyone quite capture its magic?

The book focuses on the world of Glamour from Napoleon's Paris to Naomi Campbell.

The author, Professor Stephen Gundle teaches Film and Television Studies at Warwick University. He specialises in Italian cinema and nineteenth and twentieth century cultural history.

Sarah-Jane will be reviewing the book on Sunday 1st April.
