Miss Lou R.I.P

"Dis long time gal me never see you… Come mek me hol' yu han'!"

Seeing the words and singing the song will bring back sweet memories for you if you are a child of the Jamaican 60s, 70s and even 80s.

A great light has gone out. The Hon. Dr. Louise Bennett-Coverley, a.k.a. Miss Lou, died in a Toronto hospital in Canada on July 25. She was 86 years old.

Known as Jamaica's First Lady of Comedy, Miss Lou made us laugh for decades with her TV show "Ring Ding", her songs, her pantomime performances and her dialects.

Her body, and her husband's body, will be flown back to Jamaica and - as per her wishes - be buried side-by-side in National Heroes Park. Farewell to a Jamaican icon.
