Introduction

The BBC's '159' Emergency Information Service is designed to keep people who work at the BBC informed during emergency situations such as major security alerts, fires or power failures at all key BBC buildings which might prevent them from reporting to work as normal. 159 provides up-to-date information for staff who have either been evacuated from, or hear media reports about an incident involving, a key BBC building.

Two Stages:

Stage One - The 0800 message line will initially be used to report information about incidents that have set continuity plans into action.

  • Freefone: 0800 0688 159 (call charges apply on some mobile phone networks)
  • Typetalk: the 0800 info line message is available for the deaf or hard of hearing via the RNID's Typetalk service.

Stage Two - For major incidents only, more detailed information will appear here and via:

  • Ceefax page 159
  • Digital Text via the BBC Text Help menu
  • Gateway home page
